Orphaned Raju, who loses his parents to the epidemic of plague, gets picked up by a kind school principal. When Raju feels disheartened about not having any visitors like the rest of the kids, the principal assures him that Chacha Nehru is his relative. Naive Raju believes the man, and when he finds out through his teacher that Nehru will be delivering a speech at Chowpatty, Bombay, he sneaks off in the trunk of a car to meet India's Prime Minister.
